Camping in the open…
Amongst the many pictures that we have, I decided to use some to make one special page on our camping experience. We staid in many tents which were set-up along the way but dragged along our own tent, a stove and cooking pots for more than half of the ride, until we decided that we should at least use them once. Thirty five km before Pang on our return journey, Fred all of a sudden took off from the road and drove into the open , until he marked a spot where he decided we should make a camp and spend the night at 4200 meters altitude. We followed him….
Setting up the mountaineer tent was easy…. getting the kerosene stove going was another headache. The stove was too big and had never been cleaned for months, the burner was clogged and full of black suit, the pressure pump was dismantled and put into pieces, the rubbers were worn out and crumbling….. Time again for me to pull out the tools and dismantle the whole thing….
However the scenery was lovely and the nomadic people greeted us when they were passing by with their trucks.
Few bikers probably adventure that far from the road. With that in mind, I replaced the burner of the stove , smeared, the pressure pump with petrol jelly (only brought for our lips, I swear) and in no time we had a fire going to make ourselves a nice cup of coffee. Paul and Fred pulled out the indian dalh and the french cooked ham, we had some slices of smoked beef and had a lovely dinner for the evening, we functioned well as a team. That night I remember seeing the most stars in the sky ever, the altitude and the lack of pollution opens up the firmament and gives you a completely open sky….. again these things made our trip unique..
